I actually got this idea from Rachel Ray when I used to have cable and I used to watch 30 Minute Meals. It is not a money saving idea, but more of a time saver and after all time is money! If you are like me, your garbage can is out of site and out of reach when you are working in your kitchen. That is why I have a garbage bowl (see below)
When I am on a roll cooking or cleaning in the kitchen I used to get frustrated when I had to go over to the garbage to dump cans, egg shells, wrappers, etc. Now I just throw everything in the garbage bowl and then make one trip when I am done. You are so right. I think that is the one thing I took away from R. Ray is the garbage bowl. Such a simple concept, but I had never seen it before.

I have a little countertop garbage can that I use for these things, and it's SO handy!
