Weekly Shopping Trip

I must say this week went VERY well, even though I went over my $50.00 budget. What else is new? I made several stops this week on different days and it was well worth it!

First it was Walgreen's on Monday: 1 Glade lasting impression - $8.99 (- FREE coupon I received for completing a survey) = FREE + I earned a $1.50 RR

6 pouches of Starkist Tuna - $3.84

Used $3.00 RR I received from buying some Benadryl (not a grocery item)
Net OOP: $1.61

Then I headed to Albertson's with my doublers from the Sunday paper.1 Quaker rice cakes - $1.99 (- $1.00 off coupon doubled) = .01 overage!

1 dozen eggs - $1.69

6 Grand's biscuits - $10.00 (- 2 $1.00 off 3 coupons doubled)(- $4.00 Alb savings for purchasing $10.00 in certain items) = $2.00 for 6 cans!

Net OOP: $11.25

Thursday night I decided to head over to Albies to take advantage of this weeks doublers. This is the best transaction I have had in a long time!

4 Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce (my hubby's FAVE) - $4.00 (-2 $1.00 off 2 coupons doubled) = FREE

2 Kraft zesty Italian dressing - $3.00 (-2 $1.50 off coupons) = FREE

1 Hunt's ketchup - $1.00 (- FREE coupon I received in the mail) = FREE

2 Bar S hot dogs - $2.00 (- $1.00 off 2 coupon doubled) = FREE

1 bunch bananas - $1.56

2# apples - $1.73

2#ish oranges - $1.41

Net OOP: $19.06

So I actually went to Walgreen's first because I new I wasn't buying anything cold, but this is the way the pics loaded - so anyway...

Used $5.00 off $25.00 purchase
Net OOP: $21.97

Weekly Shopping Trip

This week was a pretty good week for me although I did go over budget due to some stupid mistakes on my part. I'll explain later. I was pretty bummed also because I was not able to get the diaper deal at Walgreen's. They didn't have the sizes I needed and they didn't have any wipes. I went twice, but I know it was a pretty hot deal and I am happy for those who were able to get what they needed :). Here is how I spent my budget this week:

First stop - Fred Meyer. I have been really impressed with their deals lately and this week was not exception:

1 15# bag potatoes - $2.49

1 bag Fritos - $1.67

2 gallons milk - $3.98

2 lbs asparagus - $3.49

4 onions - $.79

2 Roma tomatoes - $.36

1 pkg bacon - $1.99 (clearanced)

2 2# cheese - $7.98 (w/in ad coupon)

2 FM butter - $2.97

3 loaves bread - $4.00

1 Suave styling gel - $2.79 (-FREE coupon) = FREE!!

Net OOP: $31.36

My next stop was Walgreen's and they didn't have any diapers at all (this was on Friday), but said they would have more on Saturday. I went Saturday and all they had were size 6 and 3 and no wipes. I only had $18.64 left in my budget so if I bought 3 pkgs of diapers to get the $10.00 RR it would have put me over budget. They didn't have any wipes that would keep me under budget, so I just decided to not get them. I actually have about a month supply of diapers right now, so it would have been nice to get the deal, but they I don't feel super disappointed. I still have the coupons...so hopefully there are some upcoming deals before they expire in April. Anyway, this is what I got at Walgreen's:

5 Garnier hair products - $14.95 (-2.00 IVC from Walgreen's EasySaver booklet, -5 $1.00 off coupons) = $.05 overage

1 mac n cheese crackers (filler item) - $.29

Net OOP: $1.16

Finally I went to Walmart - not my favorite place, but there were some good deals to be had. I had a coupon for some FREE delmonte peaches and I totally forgot to give it to the cashier. Then I bought some salad dressing that rang up wrong, the difference was only $.46, so I still would have been over budget, but I did get a lot of items for just over $20.00

2 dozen large eggs - $2.00

1 bag tortilla chips - $1.00

1 red onion - $.44

2 bunches bananas (my family was chowing down on them before I had a chance to take the picture :).) - $2.59

6 cans Ortega green chiles - $5.52 (-3 $.75 off 2 coupons) = $3.27

2 jars Nalley pickles - $3.52 (-$1.50 off 2 coupon)=$2.02

2 French's mustard - $2.00 (-2 $.50 off coupons) = $1.00

1 3# bag chicken - $4.98

2 cans Hormel chili w/o beans - $1.96 (-$.55 off 2 coupon) = $1.44

1 Ken's salad dressing - $2.24 (-$1.00 off coupon)= $1.24 (this was marked on the shelf for $1.78 I didn't notice the error until I got home)

1 Del Monte peaches - $.82 (this was supposed to be my FREE can, but I forgot to give the guy my coupon BOO HOO!)

1 pkg Huggies disposable changing pads - $2.82 (-$5.00 off Gentle care) = $2.18 overage! I had more coupons, but I wanted to see if this would work. I might go get more!

Net OOP: $20.39

My total for the week is $52.91 - $2.91 overbudget, which I will take from next week's budget!

Weekly Shopping Trip

I actually did this shopping on Friday and Saturday, and I think I am going to start posting on Saturdays instead. But, this week I am going to post on Monday then again on Saturday. I had already spent $13.11 at Walgreen's earlier in the week so I had $36.89 available to spend. I went to Fred Meyer and got some great deals.

For Friday's trip:

2 Fresh Express salad kids - $2.99 (-1.00 off 2 coupon, blinkie in front of the display!) - $1.99

1 bag pecans - $4.09

3 Roma tomatoes - $.91

1 bunch bananas - $1.55

1 FM cottage cheese - $1.25

2 Kroger crescent rolls (clearanced) - $1.78

2 pkgs margarine - $1.18

2 Banquet sausage links - $2.00

2 1/2 gals. Orange juice - $2.00 (w/in ad coupon)

4 1/2 gals. chocolate milk - $4.00 (w/in ad coupon)

4 1/2 gallons milk - $4.00 (w/in ad coupon)

Net OOP - $26.19

I decided I wanted taco salad in this week's menu, so I headed back to Freddie's with the few dollars I had left:

1 bag Doritos - $2.50

1 pkg. pepperoni - $2.00

2 bags shreded lettuce - $3.18

1 bag applis - $1.59

1 Kashi meal - $3.00 (-$3.00 FREE coupon) = FREE

Net OOP - $10.01

So, my total spent for the week is $49.31!

1 FM ice cream - $2.50

1 pkg donuts (marked down) - $.99

2.5 lbs bananas - $1.19

2 FM English muffins (marked down) - $.98

Net OOP: $42.89

Then Walmart - I was so happy they were stocked up on Johnson's buddies! I had several coupons. Here is what I ended up with there:
4 Johnson Buddies soap - $3.88 (- 4 $1.00 coupons) = $.12 overage!

1 Kotex - $1.00 (- $1.00 off coupon) = FREE!!

1 sugar free grape drink - $1.76

1 sour cream - $1.32

2 deodorant (my husband MUST have this type of deodorant, so I was happy there was a coupon recently!) - $4.36 (- $1.00 off 2 coupon) = $3.36

Net OOP: $8.06

Okay, I was over budget, but it was only $.74! I can live with that :)!

Another shopping trip...

Remember that budget of mine? The one I was already over for this week? I was really bad. I went WAAAYYY over. I don't know what got in to me. I think I went back in time to my pre-frugal days and just went crazy. Now it wasn't horrible, but here we go...

I took two trips to Fred Meyer this week. One trip I bought 6 1/2 gallons of skim milk. They were on sale for $1.00 each with the in ad coupon. I don't have a picture.

Net OOP: $6.36

The second trip was the biggie.
I bought:

2 loaves of bread - $3.34
2 FM cottage cheese - $2.50
2 FM sour cream - $1.98
1 FM plain yogurt - $1.25
10 assorted Yoplait yogurt - $5.00
2 FM orange juice - $2.00 (w/in ad coupon)
2 FM chocolate milk - $2.00 (w/in ad coupon)
1 8-pack Yoplait yogurt - $2.19 (this was a mark down because it was getting close to the date)
5.13 lbs of bananas - $1.71 (they were 3 lbs for $1.00!)
2 cans FM pears - $1.98
1 bag of grapes - $2.68
2 big pears - $1.24
1 cantaloupe - $4.28!!! (I didn't see that coming - it also wasn't very good :'()
2 FM pepperoni - $5.00
1 Kroger cheese - $4.79
1 pack Jimmy Dean turkey sausage patties - $1.99 (these were marked down)
2 packages Oscar Meyer hot dogs - $1.98 (also marked down)
1 package Ham - $.79 (also a mark down)

Net OOP: $49.51 (yes! a whole week's budget! ugh!)

I also went to Walgreen's for the Ragu deal:
I got:

7 jars of Ragu spaghetti sauce - $13.93 (-2 $.50 off 2 Ragu coupon, and 3 $.25 off 1 Ragu coupon) - $12.18

1 jar Hellman's Mayonaise - $3.99 (-$.60 off Hellman's coupon)

Net OOP: $16.65 + I received a $10.00 Register Reward
Now, instead of being $4.06 over budget, I am now $70.22 over budget! Yikes. Was it worth it? Not really. Especially not that cantaloupe!

Here is the thing, though. I have a huge stockpile. I have tons of fresh stuff. I have a lot of milk. My plan is to cut way back the next few weeks so I can catch up with this. After all, I still have the $2600.00 budget for the year. I want to make sure I don't go over that.

Weekly Shopping Trip - WAAAAAY underbudget!

I am super excited this week! It feels so GREAT to be under budget! I got a few awesome coupons in the mail this week that really helped out.

One of them was for $10.00 off a $50.00 purchase at Fred Meyer. The verbiage on the coupon did not say it had to be the total after coupons. I called my sister (who happens to work at Freddie's) and she said that as long as I gave it to the cashier FIRST before any other coupons, that it would take the $10.00 off of my total before coupons. It worked! I am so happy!

But first things first...I started with Walgreen's. I think I was going into withdrawals because it feels like I haven't been there forever. I stopped at a Walgreen's that wasn't my usual because I first went to Target to finish up some Christmas shopping. It is right across the street from a nice Walgreen's that I don't go to much. I was happy that they had most of what I wanted:2 Arm&Hammer Laundry Detergent - $2.98 (with in ad coupon)

1 Schick Quattro Razor - $6.99

2 Deerfield Farms Baking Soda - $1.00 (with in ad coupon)

2 Morton Salt - $1.00 (with in ad coupon)

1 5# Domino Sugar - $1.99 (with in ad coupon)

2 3-pack 3m tape - $2.00

2 Kellogg's Rice Krispies - $3.98

Total before coupons: ??? This was full of in ad coupons and stuff, but my receipt says I have $36.13 in savings, so I'm stickin' with that.

Coupons I used:

2 $1.00 off 1 Kellogg's

1 $4.00 off Schick

1 $3.00 off Schick (Walgreen's IVC)

1 $.35 off Domino Sugar

Net amount due: $12.85 which I put on a gift card - so No OOP for me! + I will be receiving a $2.20 rebate for the tape and I got a $5.00 Register Reward for spending more than $25.00 (before coupons, that is!).

Then I had to pick up a prescription for my hubby at MY Walgreen's, so I was able to pick up the items that they didn't have at the original Walgreen's and use the $5.00 RR I just got. I ended up with:

2 Reynold's Wrap Aluminum Foil - $1.98 (with in ad coupon)

3 Jiffy Muffin Mixes - $1.17 (with in ad coupon)

2 Arm&Hammer Laundry Soap - $3.98 (with in ad coupon)

This one worked out kind of funny too.

Coupons I used:

$5.00 RR from transaction above

2 $1.00 off Reynolds Aluminum Foil

Net OOP: $.26! I was going to put it on my gift card, but I just handed the cashier a quarter and a penny, so will be taking this out of my budget amount for the month.

My last stop was Fred Meyer. What a haul! I was kind of nervous that my pre-coupon total wouldn't go over $50.00, but I made it. Here is what I ended up with:

2 FM 1/2 gallon OJ - $2.00 (with in ad coupon)

2 FM 1/2 gallon Chocolate Milk - $2.00 (with in ad coupon)

2 FM 1/2 gallon Skim Milk - $2.00 with in ad coupon

2 FM 18 ct Eggs - $2.59 (these were B1G1 with the in ad coupon)

1 FM Vegetable oil - $1.99

1 Ruffles Chips - $2.50

2 cans Stagg Chili - $2.00

4 cans Hormel Chili - $3.16

2 margarine - $1.58

2 Hall's cough drops - $2.00

3 Fresh Express salad kits - $6.00

1 FM polish sausages - $3.99

2 Hormel Black Label bacon - $5.00 (with in ad coupon)

4 Fuji apples - $1.41

1 bag yellow onions - $1.89

My total before coupons rang up at $58.03 (that was before I gave them my FM in ad coupons as well, which brought the total way down).

Coupons I used:

$10.00 off $50.00 purchase

2 $.55 off Fresh Express

1 $1.25 off Fresh Express (I got this in the mail from Albertson's last week, but it was a MFG coupon - good anywhere!)

2 $.50 off Hall's

My net OOP ended up at a whopping: $28.57! I can't believe it.

I'm so happy because I was able to get some great stockpile stuff, some great fresh food, and I still have a lot left in my budget. I must add that I had to send my hubby to the store this weekend for some milk and butter and he spent $8.45, so my total grocery expense for the week is $37.28. I still have $12.72. (My budget is $50/week) Will I spend it? I don't know. I may go to Albertson's and pick up a few things, they are having a good sale on Betty Crocker stuff - we'll see. My stockpile is pretty good right now!

Fred Meyer Trip - Some Awesome Deals!

I headed off to Fred Meyer today because it was the first day I could use this coupon book. I was one of the first 2,000 shoppers, so I did get the FREE reusable grocery bag, which also included a magnetic shopping list. Fun! They also were handing out additional inserts with even more coupons, so I was happy. I had both kids with me, so at times it was frustrating, but I made it through with plenty of great deals. In fact, I got ALL this stuff for $27.32!!!

Here is the breakdown:

9 cans of FM vegetables - $4.50

1 5# bag of FM sugar - $2.89

I was super excited about this trip, especially the bananas! My plan is to cut some of them in pieces and freeze them for smoothies or banana bread or muffins of the future. I got the idea from Money Saving Mom here. For the potatoes (because I already had 10 pounds) I am going to make several dishes of Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes to freeze for later.

Monthly Mission - Fred Meyer

So, are you sick of looking at pictures of MILK on my blog? I never realized we went through so much milk until this month!

Anyway, this is my last trip this month of my Monthly Mission to spend $100.00 on groceries this month.

I headed over to Fred Meyer and picked up:

1 gallon skim milk - $2.50

2 Darigold chocolate milk - $2.00 (only one is pictured, I couldn't pry the other one out of my son's hands :)!)

Total before coupons $4.77

Used 1 $1.00 off 2 Darigold coupons

net OOP $3.77

I now have $.62 left in my budget. What should I buy? Just kidding!

Monthly Mission - Fred Meyer

Ah...the milk. It seems that I cannot go one week without buying a gallon or two. Milk can be such a budget buster, like meat, only more necessary. I honestly had no idea how much milk we actually went through. With these two gallons I just purchased, it brings us to 7 gallons for the month - and I don't even drink milk! At 2.75 each (if it is on sale) that is over $20.00 or 1/5 of my budget this month (although I was able to use some register reward deals to get some cheaper milk)!

So enough with the milk rant! I went to Fred Meyer yesterday and picked up some milk - for a total of $5.83. I am now scraping the bottom of my monthly budget barrel! We now have $5.79 to last us for 10 more days in October. I really need some cheese, but I don't want to spend the rest of my budget and not have anything left for the rest of the month, so for now we are making do. I know we can make it - this Monthly Mission has been so great for me and our family. It has helped me to realize that I truly can set and achieve goals. If I can do it, you can too!

Monthly Mission - Fred Meyer

Today is Columbus Day. Did you know that? Normally at my part-time job I work Monday and Tuesday. It is at a credit union, so they are closed on most holidays. Thus, I am off today and will be working Tuesday and Wednesday instead. Long story short (too late), my mom had the day off today too and we decided to have a bake-fest. When she got here I realized that I had no eggs and only 1 stick of butter. What good is a bake-fest without eggs and butter? She watched the kids while I made a quick run to Fred Meyer to get some essentials and pick up some of their great deals this week.

I know - I passed up $1.50 per box cereal at Albertson's last week. That was Cheerios, this is Life. There is no comparison. We LOVE Life Cereal and it doesn't ever seem to go on sale when we have coupons, so I jumped on this. It was on sale for $2.00 per box and I had several $1.00 off 2 coupons. I restrained myself and only bought 4 boxes (although I wanted 20 :)). Here is what I got:

4 boxes Life Cereal - $8.00 ($2.00 each)

2 FM 18 ct. eggs - $2.49 (I got both of these for $2.49 b/c they were B1G1)

2 Hillshire Farms Turkey Sausage - $4.00 ($2.00 each)

1 Red Onion - $.57

2 Gallons milk - $5.50 ($2.75 each)

2 FM margarine - $1.58 ($.79 each)

2 FM Butter - $4.98 ($2.49 each)

Total before coupons: $28.75

Coupons used: 2 $1.00 off 2 Life Cereal coupons

Total OOP: $26.75

This brings me up to $80.51 out of my $100.00 monthly grocery budget. Yikes! It is not even 1/2 way through the month. I think I will be okay though...as long as I don't turn return to my deal-a-holic ways!

The good news is:
  • I a pretty well stocked on perishables, so I shouldn't have to shop at all this week.
  • I have 2 $3.00 RR's left from the Glade Candle Walgreen's trips last week (see here and here). I plan on using those for milk this next week if needed.
  • I still have $19.49 that I can use for the rest of the month.
  • My stockpile is still going strong!
  • We honestly don't need anything.
  • I can get creative if I need to - I have some powdered milk in the cupboard :)
About the bake-fest...we made Pecan Tarts, Sugar Cookies, and Mud Pie Brownies. Anyone want to come over and share?

Kellogg's $10.00 Rebate

I'm happy to say I did pretty well with my Kellogg's $10.00 rebate. There was a separate insert in the paper two weeks ago that had a $10.00 rebate by mail from Kelloggs and several coupons. The rules were purchase 10 Kellogg's, Keebler, and/or Eggo Products and receive $10.00 back by mail. I decided to check out Fred Meyer and found some great unadvertised specials.

I got:
2 Eggo Waffles, $2.00 each, - $1.00/2 coupon, total=$3.00

3 Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats, $1.67 each, - $1.00/2 coupon=$4.00

2 Kellogg's Poptarts, $1.67 each, - $1.00/2 coupon=$2.34

2 Kellogg's Yogo's Fruit Snacks, $1.67 each, - $1.00/1 coupon, - $1.00/1 coupon =$1.34

2 Keebler Cookies, $1.88 each, - $1.00/2 coupon=$2.76

Total = $13.44 - after $10.00 mail in rebate - $3.44!

In case you were wondering...this is a total of 11 items, but I had to buy 3 Rice Krispie's Treats to get a store discount. What a shame :).
